A Hey Steve Update: Looking for Her Birth Father Part 1|| STEVE HARVEY

– Imagine growing up thinking
that you were one thing, only to discover that
you’re not that at all. Well that’s the story of
our next guest Taylor, who appeared on my show on the Hey Steve segment a few months ago. She sought out my advice
on a tough decision about approaching her birth father. Let’s take a look. – So my question to you
is what’s the best way for me to approach a potential father without disrespecting
his current situation? – I do understand your wanting
to be connected to something. You wanna know where you’re from, you want to meet your dad. It’s a lot of people like that. I really feel for you. But you are not a mistake. See God, when he put
these two people together, it was for the full
intent that you be born. So let’s start, just with the
letter so you don’t get hurt. We can help you with that part. – I would appreciate it so much. (audience applauding) – [Steve] Yeah, all right? – Thank you. – [Steve] Thank you. So why do you think people were
so interested in your story? – After that segment came out, I had so much positive feedback, people saying, hey, thank you so much for telling your story. I have the exact same
thing going on in my life. Or, my mom experienced that, or I just found my dad. And so I haven’t even gotten
through half of ’em, Steve. – Your idea was you were
going to walk up to his house. What happened after you left the show? – Well I took your advice, I did not walk up to his house, thank god. I wrote a letter, and I
did not mail that letter, but I did write a letter and
I tried to prepare myself, mentally to deal with the rejection that could be possibly there. So that’s why I didn’t
really send it off yet. But, since then, I’ve had a lot of support from family members who’ve seen it, and then some who are not so supportive, wondering why I went this route to publicly put myself out there. – See the little bit of
negative that you get, you have to ignore that ’cause
the thing about hate is, hate is louder than love. – [Taylor] Right. – [Steve] But love is stronger. – Yeah. – You got to understand that. How long have you been
searching for your birth father? – I’ve been searching for my
birth father since about 2007. Originally, I grew up with this man that I talked to about before, who I had really grew up hating him and resenting him for
not being in my life, because his family was white, and they didn’t really
want a lot to do with me because of the fact that I was black. So, dealing with that already,
I already was traumatized. – Okay. But he’s not your actual birth– – He’s not my actual birth father. So in the middle of me
searching for my citizenship, ’cause I’m from the Bahamas,
I had to have a sponsor. So when it came down to it, I needed two birth parents from the US. I found this guy, who
wasn’t really around. He found me, on Facebook. Another guy who took a
test, he was not the father. My mom briefly mentioned in 2007 that there was a possibility
of one other person, so I asked my mom his name. She told me his name,
I looked him up online. I found some photos, and I said “Hey, Mom, is this the guy?” She said, “Yeah, that’s the guy.” I said okay, well at least
I can go off of that. So I decided to friend him. He accepted the request,
but he did not respond to the messages, so I took
it upon myself to message every single person in his friends list, and ask them if they knew him, and that I was looking for him. One person responded, “I
haven’t seen him in years, “but I’ll get you back.” I haven’t heard from her
in a really long time. – Okay, so. I told you, that I’d try to help you. So I reached out to an
investigative genetic genealogist, and who’s also the founder
of The DNA Detectives, and is considered to be an innovator in the use of autosomal DNA. Please welcome CeCe Moore. (audience applause) Hi, CeCe, how are you? – Great, thanks for having me.
– Okay, so tell me. What’s your process for helping someone find his or her birth parent? – Before approaching a
potential birth parent, we believe very strongly in
getting DNA confirmation first. So we have gotten you
DNA tested, as you know, and when we are able to
analyze those results, we’ll be looking at his family tree, compared to the family trees of the people that are sharing DNA with you. And then we can just follow those, and it’ll lead us right to
your real biological father. – [Steve] You’ve taken the test. – Yes. – [Steve] So the DNA test is done. After the break, we’re
gonna find out if the man that Taylor suspects,
is really her father. (audience applause) We’ll do that when we come
back, right after this. (bright jazzy music)

  6. I cannot believe I am watching this..I literally had the CRAZY thought to do this very same thing. Except I'm in the U.K. This is not an easy thing to do….

  7. For all those, who want to see the upcoming, here is the part 2 http://stevetv.com/episode/bubba-wallace-and-following-up-on-a-search-for-a-father?clip=a-hey-steve-update-looking-for-her-birth-father-part-2#

  8. She sounds very confused, so sad she has to hunt different men down trying to figure out who her father is.

  9. Oh it getting more interesting, just like it is in Paternity Court Show.
Hey Uncle Steve, don't keep us waiting, i am already Curious.

  10. In part 2, the DNA company couldn't find the results on time, don't bother watching it. I am bothered that she sent a dm to every friend on the man's friend's list. This is almost harrassment and such an awkward way to do things. It's hard to come to terms with the fact that you may not know a part of your roots. It's even harder to discover that you have to go through this because of the kind of life your mother lived when she was younger. How can you not know the father of your child? Even if you used a sperm bank, it would have been easier to find him, than this. This is sad.

  11. That is a mess that millions of Americans are having , they don't know their father , I mean that poor girl might be ending marrying her brother or even uncle by mistake . Since kids starting having sex as early as as ten years old , and parents are taking this very lightly . having multiple partners and random sex will lead to such sad stories , where people can't tell their true identity .

  12. To everyone asking for part 2. I've seen it and they do not have the results back yet. Also there will be no part 3 the show's been canceled.

  13. "God put those 2 people together for the sole purpose that YOU be born." Thank you Steve! No child is unwanted. If you are conceived then you are you. Don't abort/kill your baby for anyone!

  14. I honestly still don't understand why a show like this will no longer be showing. I wish the cancellation would be reversed

  15. They can still post the update on Facebook. Hopefully, we can still see her journey and hopefully finds her dad.

  16. AND THE RESULTS IS??? BTW TAYLOR, YOUR STORY IS ALMOST THE SAME AS MINE. I STARTING SEARCHING ON FB, INBOXING ALL OF MY POTENTIAL SISTERS AND BROTHERS, THEN THEIR FB FRIENDS, AND I FOUND OUT THAT MY DAD TOLD THEM TO FIND ME BEFORE HE DIED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. STILL NO DNA TEST, BUT I LOOK JUST LIKE HIM. I WANT TO KNOW FOR SURE THO. IT IS SAD THAT I'VE KNOWN ABOUT 4 OR 5 MEN TO POTENTIALLY BE MY FATHER. IT'S SICKENING. MY MOM RAISED ME TO THINK THAT THE MAN THAT RAISED ME AND GAVE ME HIS LAST NAME WAS MY FATHER UNTIL I WAS 15 YRS OLD. AND SHE HAD THE NERVE TO BREAK THE NEWS TO HIM BY LEAVING A NOTE ON HIS TRUCK AT HIS JOB. HAD HIM ON CHILD SUPPORT AND EVERYTHING. AND NOW YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE FAMILY HATING AND LOOKING DOWN ON ME. I DIDN'T ASK TO BE HERE, I AM THE INNOCENT ONE. I WOULD NEVER, EVER, TAKE MY CHILDREN THROUGH ANYTHING AS SUCH…..!
