Big Cut to Childbirth Surgery Rate

Giving birth is hard enough.. and now it seems
like a once-common surgical procedure tied to childbirth.. is happening a whole lot less.
I’m Rachelle Grossman with your latest health news. The rates of episiotomies – in which
the birth canal is surgically widened to ease the childbirth process – are declining. Researchers
say over the past decade, the rate of episiotomies has been cut almost in half. These findings
are in line with recommendations which says that the procedure should not be routine.
The reason? Episiotomies can bring a risk of complication like bleeding, infection and
pain.
