  1. These 93-96 live shows were the real deal. I saw them from 88-98 and….stopped. The Xmas Light shows with this line-up rank up with some of the GREATEST live shows I've seen from 1975-present day. I also was a touring musician from 81-94, 97-99 & on and off between 2005 and 2015. I've seen some pretty epic performances.
Ronald was in a rarified airspace…completely colouring outside of the lines…like true visionary artists do. A key component being left alone to his vision freely.
Steven was Bonhamesque as a drummer – his kick drum wore your abs down like a series of shots from a prizefighter on a heavy bag…relentless.
Michael was infallible, steady, deceptively groovy and, tight – like a combination of Dave Alexander of the Stooges, Steve Currie of T Rex, and Simon Gallup of The Cure – backbone.
And Wayne was the freaky conductor who would map it all out, drive the vision, straddling chaos at all times. Assaulting senses with volume/sounds/visuals/conceptualization that made you FEEL the emotional impact and have it wrap around you and, take you the places that true art does. His anti-voice and Willy Wonka-meets-Syd Barrett kookiness taking over the top.
AMAZING CAPTURE. IMAGINE HOW GREAT THIS WAS LIVE WHEN IT COMES ACCROSS THIS GOOD ON AN ANTIQUATED VIDEO CAMERA RECORDED ON TAPE…TRANSFERED TO VHS…
    Thank You for these videos

  2. I first saw the Lips in 2004. These Abyss recordings are really making me wish I'd seen them circa 96.

  3. @lothariam He plays guitar to Yoshimi live…and that's not the guitar with the yellow bubble on it..and so what…the live show is awesome..and so is he…he actually played along to a bunch of songs with his guitar…go see a show and then maybe you'll know the facts

  4. Absolutely one or the greatest live shows I've seen. Ever. Champaign, IL @ Blind Pig for Clouds Taste Metallic tour. I too miss this version of the band. An epic album, and live…mind blowing.

  5. @magicmike323 He cut contact with everyone involved with the band and literally disappeared. He produced a Richard Davies album and played with some local band for a few months, but he really hasn't done anything since leaving. It's a shame.

  6. I've been really down because all of the old music videos have been gone, then I found this. I nearly wept for joy. This is probably one of my favorite albums of all time, and there's never been anything around from it. The band shuns it. It's just been this ghost from the past for me. This is truly beautiful.
