(Switched at Birth) “Looking for a Sign” An Original Song

Hey, everyone. My name is Tally. I’m here
with Anya the ukulele and an original song that I wrote for February Album Writing Month.
This song is about the ABC Family show Switched at Birth, um, in which many of the characters
are deaf, which is why I’m attempting the whole sign language thing.
Um, anyway, it’s about these two girls who were switched at birth, and, one of them,
Bay, is whose point of view this song is from. And, uh, anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Oh,
and it’s called Looking for a Sign. And I… Now, I hope you enjoy it. Enjoy it? Maybe?
Okay. Yes? No? Okay. [music] Who am I? I’m so confused.
Spent my life in someone’s shoes Who I am isn’t who I was supposed to be.
If you are me, and I am you What are we supposed to do?
Because I’ve grown kind of fond of being me There has to be some reason why
That everyday has been a lie Everything is upside down
Everything is switched around And I’m looking for a sign
That says why everything that was mine is yours
And why everything yours is mine I can’t figure it out yet
How two worlds connect It seems so random, yet perfect all the same
We didn’t win, we didn’t lose And now there’s no way I could choose
How different would I be with another name? There has to be some reason why
That everyday has been a lie Everything is upside down
Everything is switched around And I’m looking for a sign
That says why everything that was mine is yours
And why everything yours is mine Sometimes I wish I didn’t know
Didn’t wonder how my life would go If we hadn’t been through all of this
But there’s no way I could go back And put my life on another track
Because there’s too many people I would miss There has to be some reason why
That everyday has been a lie Everything is upside down
Everything is switched around And I’m looking for a sign
That says why everything that was mine is yours
And why everything yours is mine If I was Daphne and you were Bay
If life had gone the right way Honestly, I’d be remiss
If I said I wished our crazy mixed up switched up family didn’t exist There has to be some reason why
That everyday has been a lie Everything is upside down
Everything is switched around And I’m looking for a sign
That says why everything that was mine is yours
And why everything yours is mine So, anyway, that is my song for Switched at
Birth. Um, I was actually going to do, like, the whole thing, like, singing and in sign
language, but I was way too chicken to try that. Um, I really don’t know a whole lot
of sign language. But, anyway, um, you should check out Switched
at Birth, because it’s amazing. Uh, thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed it. Bye.

  2. You're such a good singer/ songwriter! Every time I listen to one of these songs about shows I don't watch I'm surprised at just how much I enjoy it anyway.

  3. Haven't seen this one either. Jeezuz I need a TV. Or not. I'll just keep listening to you and then I'll be able to hold intelligent conversation about all these TV shows! HURRAH!
Nice job with the signing. I learned some from a book, and then I worked at a deaf camp for a year. Didn't get as good as I should have, and I've forgotten most of it. =(

  4. XD cute, but don't learn from a book. I can give you sites if you want.

song is cute. I'd just suggest captioning your vid, much easier if you dont know asl.

  5. i loveeeeeee this video! the song is great and her voice is really unqiue. this girl needs to 1. put this song on itunes so i can buy it and 2. go on "the voice" on NBC!!! i honestly loveeeee her unqiue voice! πŸ™‚

  6. @robynbeisswanger I actually have a weird thing with my right hand and I can't do the letter "y," so I always finger spell with my left hand, even though I'm right handed. I'm always switching back and forth, which I know is not the right way to do it, but I'm limited with my right hand being all weird. Thanks for the tip!

  7. You did great like always Tally! You know more sign language than me XD I'd need to stare at a chart of the signs if I ever attempted to do it! Anyway great song! You've made this month go by super fast, very enjoyable!

  8. That is a beautiful song!! I loveeee it!! I think they (producers of the show) Should see this, and use it as the beginning/title song! Its a great song!!
